Gretchen Shirm worked as a lawyer for over ten years. Her first book Having Cried Wolf a collection of interwoven stories was published in 2010, for which she was shortlisted for the UTS/Glenda Adams Award for New Writing and named a Sydney Morning Herald Best Young Australian Novelist.
Her first novel Where the Light Falls was published by Allen & Unwin in 2016 and was shortlisted for the 2017 Christina Stead Prize for Fiction in the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.
Her fiction and criticism has been published in Best Australian Stories, Review of Australian Fiction, Southerly, Art Monthly, Sydney Review of Books, Australian Book Review, The Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Monthly.
Gretchen teaches creative writing and literature at the Writing & Society Research Centre, University of Western Sydney.
